Police Using Google Guns Terrify Criminals (SAT PAR News Aug 19, 2014) Police departments such as Baltimore City and Detroit are using the new Google Guns, these are Military GPS controlled weapons that also use the Google map system. When a shot is fired the bullet gets signals from the gun to change the flight path to hit the target, even if the target moved. The bullets have small jets that can fire for a fraction of a second - this is enough for a course correction. The bullet is instructed to aim for the target that was identified by the gun. Identification occurs through a special beam (classified) that leaves a small radioactive signature on the person - the amount is harmless but is enough for the gun to track within 1,000 feet. The computer in the gun is very tiny but powerful as it receives GPS signals, map information, and updates the bullet on the target.  Ballistic experts are referring to the bullet as a hybrid since it has missile components in addition to the classic explosive charge - even though the jets are small, they still change the course of the bullet. An advantage of the Google maps is a detailed record of the bullet flight path. Except for active investigations, Google will make a map available of all bullet flight paths where the technology is employed.

Apple's Updated Siri Works With Scientology To Solve Problems - Personal & Business (SAT PAR News Aug 18, 2014) Not content with your smartphone answering every little known fact in existence, Apple has added a Scientology artificial intelligence application to answer any other question you might have. Apple CEO Tim Cook explained how it works, "Siri will first determine whether this is a fact-based question, if it is not, then the application will search a vast database of ethical and best practices for most types of situations as developed by Scientology information specialists. This can be personal relationships of all types, complicated agreement issues, business planning, and we even have a large section for child disputes. Getting younger we have advice for unhappy babies. We even have solutions for pet owners, the list is astounding. If this is an unexplored issue, Siri will combine related advice to get the best answer. Apple believes Siri is now the one stop virtual person to get the best advice. You will never be without answers to any situation again, we can promise that!" Controversy has erupted however over the use of Scientology to guide the system. CNET, the technology publishing company which also conducts software tests and reviews, noted that the answers are based around the premise of "All you need to solve the problem is enough data. Step outside your preconceptions, step outside the control of those who are causing the problem, and look for the information you are missing." CNET noted that this works for fact based problems but does little good for a 15 year old determining what to do with messy issues in dating, making decisions to engage in whistleblowing, or deciding on a career that may or may not be helping people. In other words Scientology lacks any real core of ethics and morals, so when problems arise in that area, the advice does not work. CNET found that the advice of close friends, parents, counselors, and religious advisers provided real world usable and on target ethical advice 96% more times than when the exact same personal problems were posed to those groups and Siri.

Land's End Mistaken Racy GQ Issue Bonus Is Actually A New Form Of Flexible Photo & Video Player (SAT PAR News Aug 14, 2014) Even though Lands' End apologized for the  'Lands' End Bonus' of GQ magazine that had a nearly-naked Ratajkowski on the cover, they are not apologizing for the technology contained it it, a video player. Lands End urges people not to throw the magazine away as it is a special edition with a great deal of new science contained in it. Edgar Huber, the chief executive issued this statement today, "Unfortunately the cover has distracted from the real message, and that is that the cover will receive radio signals that will not only get rid of what some people think is offensive, but will also allow shopping and watching entertainment. The only requirement is that you be within one of the Lands End stores where it will broadcast 3 different channels: *shopping, *comedy shows, and *news. We urge customers to visit a store and watch how easily the current cover disappears and replaces it with something you like. The last image - still photo or the last frame of a video - will be the final picture for the cover when you leave the store." Sat Par took the CQ magazine to a Lands End. As soon as Sat Par entered the retail floor the cover changed to sale items in the store. When Sat Par  walked back out, the last image stayed on the cover.

Twitter Bots Given Okay For Legal Protection - First Interactive Internet Use Of Artificial Intelligence (SAT PAR News Aug 12, 2014) Until recently there were several automated Twitter accounts that either created humor with combined nonsense words from current news or SPAM which has the focus of regulators. What is new is the traditional Twitter bots - which are continuously running applications sending Tweets based on whatever parameters were set to trigger the tweets with frequency, content, and various filters -  are now supercharged with a hyper-neural matrix (HNM). This is basically a complex system of decision making based on the algorithms used in the stock market by high speed traders. What is different is that instead of a set of trading decisions based on many factors is how to respond to humans based on many interrelated factors. For example if you sent a message saying you are concerned about food and supplies to trapped people in a flooded area in a far away country, the Twitter bot would look at current US policy, UN food programs, NGO efforts, recent polls, statistics, current climate, agriculture and many more factors before composing a reply. The result is an opinion sounding like the editors or the Washington Post or the New York Times. Based on the amazing human quality of writing (emphatic argument) and of course well cited sources, the Journal of Empirical Research on Human Research has concluded they are intelligent entities and will reduce the need for exploiting humans in the future for many types of psychological research, human research ethics being a main focus of the group. In response to this, the UN International Institute for Software Technology (UNU – IIST) has declared that the "Virtual Human Twitter Bots (VHTB)" should be given free speech rights and protection in every country in the world. One unanswered question is that since the bots are close to being human intelligent, what ethics should we have for them, in experiments, in modifications, in control?

China Creates "Groundhog Day" Computer Forcing Citizens Backwards in Time - Every Day (SAT PAR News Aug 06, 2014) Though the 1993 film "Groundhog Day" with actor Bill Murray is an enjoyable fantasy for most people where the same day occurs over and over again, China has taken it seriously and made the concept policy in all of networked China. Using the computer equivalent of a massive DVR (Digital Video Recorder) a huge underground warehouse of supercomputers stored August 1, 2014 as the final day of all events in China. All new computer based transactions are intercepted and processed through the "Grand Temporal Filter One" as it is officially called.  This means in effect that any computer or phone activity will never progress past that date. News, government forms, laws, personal messaging, emails, any digital information will only respond up to that date. While ordinary citizens are stunned, historians are somewhat mollified that the past is preserved, but as each day goes by they note there is no new history, Sima Qian grandson with the same name of the famous historian notes, "It is like the world ended on August 1, and we live in a time capsule". Meanwhile demonstrations have broken out over failure to register babies being born and obtaining drivers licenses. The Chinese government released a statement today, "We are actively decreasing citizen activity to regulate growth and improve the economy. New activity will begin when stabilization has occurred."
