Twitter Bots Given Okay For Legal Protection - First Interactive Internet Use Of Artificial Intelligence (SAT PAR News Aug 12, 2014) Until recently there were several automated Twitter accounts that either created humor with combined nonsense words from current news or SPAM which has the focus of regulators. What is new is the traditional Twitter bots - which are continuously running applications sending Tweets based on whatever parameters were set to trigger the tweets with frequency, content, and various filters -  are now supercharged with a hyper-neural matrix (HNM). This is basically a complex system of decision making based on the algorithms used in the stock market by high speed traders. What is different is that instead of a set of trading decisions based on many factors is how to respond to humans based on many interrelated factors. For example if you sent a message saying you are concerned about food and supplies to trapped people in a flooded area in a far away country, the Twitter bot would look at current US policy, UN food programs, NGO efforts, recent polls, statistics, current climate, agriculture and many more factors before composing a reply. The result is an opinion sounding like the editors or the Washington Post or the New York Times. Based on the amazing human quality of writing (emphatic argument) and of course well cited sources, the Journal of Empirical Research on Human Research has concluded they are intelligent entities and will reduce the need for exploiting humans in the future for many types of psychological research, human research ethics being a main focus of the group. In response to this, the UN International Institute for Software Technology (UNU – IIST) has declared that the "Virtual Human Twitter Bots (VHTB)" should be given free speech rights and protection in every country in the world. One unanswered question is that since the bots are close to being human intelligent, what ethics should we have for them, in experiments, in modifications, in control?

Facebook's New Scandal - After Secret Experiments Manipulating Emotions, The Social Network Admits 5 Million Members Are Virtual And Do Not Exist (SAT PAR News Jul 01, 2014) Barely shaking itself off from one scandal of using its members as lab rats, Facebook is still reeling from the outing by a key programmer that 5 million members are in fact virtual, and do not exist in the real world. SAT PAR was able to get an interview with the programmer agreeing to keep their identity secret. "We have this AI room [artificial intelligence] which is locked to only a few people. We have the virtual people sign up and register just like anybody else and start posting pictures and events. Each virtual member is completely unique. The software generates a personality for each member. They exist in a dedicated memory slot. We even gave them work/school and sleep schedules so they mimic real people in every way. There is 5 million different emotional responses to any one event. If a real Facebook member posts an interesting picture, a certain number of the virtual members will respond with different reactions. What is amazing is they even email the help desk. We had to get rid of some that were actually harassing real people and replace them with new virtual members. If we did not have a special hidden ID on these members, you would never know." Early reaction to this revelation is so far muted as many people interviewed are just receiving the news and are in disbelief and speechless.

Artificial Intelligence Computer Fools Computer That Beat Turing (SAT PAR News Jun 16, 2014) Panda C7 the new computer that use both Quantum computing and living cell circuits was able to pretend it was 1 day old human baby. The tables were turned on the computer referred to as 13 year old boy Eugene that judges could not tell was human or not in the original test in London, at Reading University. The new experiment was held at the same location with a new computer developed by IBM creators of the famous Watson computer that took on the TV game show Jeopardy. Panda C7 in replicating the mind of a newborn baby was able to confound 'Eugene' in a similar chat conversation. Researchers pointed out that imitating a baby was very difficult so they used Closed Captioning techniques to provide descriptive text since the computer simulated baby could not talk. For example when asked a question a gurgle text might be shown, or there could be a burp, or crying, even the smacking of lips hungry for milk was displayed in text. The Turing winner could not trip up the baby robot brain. No matter how convoluted the question, an appropriate baby response was always elicited. In the end it could not be determined whether it was a real baby or not and resulted in a second winning of the Turing test but a first against another computer.
